How To Make Egg Salad

Difficulty:

There are a lot of ways to cut up a hard boiled egg.  You can just use a knife to chop the cooked egg.  Or you can also mash the cooked egg with a fork.  An egg slicer which is shown in the photo below, makes perfect slices for sandwiches or for a garnish. You can also use the slicer to slice the egg in both directions and end up with chopped eggs for salad and dip.

If you are going to make egg salad sandwiches, three eggs will be enough for two sandwiches.

Celery and/or green olives are traditional “add-in”s to egg salad.

Be sure to mince the celery (cut it into really small bits) when you are adding it to a salad. Cut the celery length wise into thin strips, and then cut the strips into very small pieces.

Also be sure to slice the olives.

Crispy chopped bacon can add an extra zing to the taste and texture.  A dash of curry powder is fantastic when you serve the salad as a dip with crackers and cut up vegetables.

Add a dash of Salt and Pepper

Add about 2 T. of mayonnaise, and give it a stir.

That’s it! The egg salad is all made, now just pick your favorite bread and you’ve got yourself a great sandwich!

Enjoy!

Thanks!  Can you do a video on how to peel a boiled egg?  I have the hardest time and most of the egg white comes with the shell.

Thanks, Erika

Hi Racegrrli, there are a couple of things you can do to make peeling hard cooked eggs easier.

First try cooking eggs that are about 1 week old.  The fresher the egg the harder it is to peel.

Also make sure the eggs are really cold.  After they have cooked and cooled, stick them in the refrigerator for a few hours before peeling them.

Another great trick is to fill a bowl with cool water, then with a spoon crack the cooked egg several times.  Put the (cooked) cracked eggs in the bowl of water and let them soak for about 10-15 minutes.  The water will seep in and make peeling them much easier.

Good luck!

It was so great!  I think this is a good tradition.

The easiest way I have found to peel eggs is to place them back into WARM water in their cooking pan right after boiling so they stay warm.  I always peel them while I'm standing at the sink and discard the shells into a paper towel to throw away much easier.  Take the warm egg and crack it against the side of the sink numerous times to shatter the shell so you can carefully find the membrane to pull.  Be sure to run warm water over the egg or dunk the eggs in the pan of water as you are peeling it. The shell is attached to the shell so the wetter the shell, the easier it is to removed.  Use your thumb and fingers to gently work the shell/membrane away from the egg.

One of my favourite ways to eat hard-boiled eggs is with a variety of dips/spices. You can dip them into honey mustard, curry, fresh ground pepper and sea salt - and they are suprisingly yummy when eaten with a handful of spicy or barbeque peanuts. Add a V-8 or the such and you have a nice snack.

Thanks Heather for the great egg snacking ideas!
