To chop an onion first slice off the top and cut it in half from the root to the top.
Then peel off the skin.
With the knife tip pointed towards the root, slice the onion to within 1/2 inch of the root.
Each slice should be about 1/4 inches wide.
Now… with bent fingers…. make 1/4 inch cuts parallel to the root.
