I’m going to show you how to prepare two types of fish…baked cod… cooked in the oven…and salmon cooked in the microwave.
Let’s start with the cod
It takes 5 minutes to prepare and about 25 minutes to bake in the oven.
Step one in baking anything is to preheat your oven. For the cod, set the oven to 375 degrees.
You will need a
Baking dish
And
A small bowl
The ingredients we need are
Two pounds of cod, which will make 4 really big servings
1 cup of seasoned bread crumbs,
3 tablespoons of soft butter
3 tablespoons of lemon juice
And some Salt and pepper
If you’re preparing a full meal, mashed potatoes go well with cod…
you might want to start making the mashed potatoes first…
then everything will be ready at the same time!

Use about 1 teaspoon of the butter to grease the baking pan.
Lay the cod in the pan. These really thick pieces are called “Captains Cut”
Pour the lemon juice over the cod.
Sprinkle on some salt and pepper
And then, Spread about 1 teaspoon of butter on the fish.

Now in the small bowl…
mix the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter with the bread crumbs.
You could use olive oil instead of butter if you wish.
Cover the cod with the bread crumbs.
It’s now ready to pop in the oven!
This Captains Cut of cod is so thick it will take about 25 minutes to cook.
Ahhh that looks perfect! Tartar Sauce anyone?

If you are short on time…then try cooking your fish in the microwave oven.
It’s sure to come out tender and juicy.
Always start with a microwave safe dish. (Look for this sign on the bottom)
I’m going to place this two-inch thick salmon steak in the dish…
add some lemon juice,
salt and pepper,
and maybe even a sprinkle of dill.
Then…cover the dish with wax paper.
Into the microwave it goes. This size salmon steak will take about 4-5 minutes to cook.
Not all microwaves have the same strength.
You may have to experiment a little bit to get the timing right…
Under estimate rather than over estimate cooking times.
With a knife, check to see if the fish is cooked to your liking.
That’s it! Dinner’s ready!
