Welcome to Tips and Techniques at startcooking.com…I’m Kathy
Maister.
To bake a potato in the microwave… first wash it under running water
with a vegetable brush or your hands.
Pat it dry with a paper towel.
Puncture four holes in the potato with the tip of a sharp knife… to allow
the steam to escape…Otherwise the potato may explode when you cook
it.
Place the potato on a microwave safe dish…then put the dish into the
microwave.
One 7-to-8 ounce potato takes about 7 minutes to cook…2 will take about
11 minutes.
If your microwave has a potato button, press that and the moisture
sensors in the oven will determine the cooking time.
Now let the potato REST for a few minutes to finish cooking.
The potato is cooked when a knife slides easily into it… you should be
able to squeeze the potato without too much resistance.
Slice the top with a knife… place a folded paper towel over the
potato…and give it a bash with your fist to break the fibers apart.
Give it a squeeze and it should be nice and fluffy.
