Welcome to startcooking.com…I’m Kathy Maister.
These Tex-Mex Cheese Burgers are juicy and full of flavor…but not too much heat!
I’ll let you decide if they need an extra kick from a few drops of hot sauce.
An equipment and ingredient list is at the end of this video.

We’re going to start by making a great sauce for these cheese burgers.
Mix together… in a small bowl:
1/2 cup of sour cream
1/3 cup of ketchup and
One 4 1/2 ounce can of chopped green chilies
WOW! That looks like a lot of chilies. Not to worry, the sour cream is going to even off the heat!
Cover it up and stick it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve it.

To make four cheese burgers we need about 1/3 cup of minced onions. One small or 1/2 of a medium onion should be enough.
Cut off the top of the onion then cut it in half and peel it…now make 1/8 inch cuts perpendicular to the root.
Now turn the onion and make 1/8 inch cuts parrarell to the root.
Put the minced onion in a mixing bowl and add:
1 pound of lean ground beef
1 Tablespoon of ketchup
1/2 teaspoon of chili powder
4 ounces of shredded Mexican cheese blend
1/4 teaspoon of salt and
1/4 teaspoon of ground pepper
With clean hands…gently mix everything together.
Divide the meat mixture into four equal parts.
Shape the meat into patties by first rolling it into a ball…and then flatten it… to about a 3 1/2 inch circle.
Preheat your non-stick frying pan on medium high heat for about a minute.
Add the cheese burgers to the pan and let them cook for 4 minutes on the first side.
Then flip them and let them cook for another four minutes on the other side.

While the cheese burgers are cooking you can get the rolls toasted.
Lay them out on a baking sheet with sides and put them under the broiler.
The flame (or electric heating coil) should be about 4 inches from the rolls.
Watch them carefully as the broiler will toast these rolls in just few minutes.

Everything is ready, now we just need to assemble our Tex-Mex Cheese Burgers.
with some crisp lettuce…now a dollop of sauce…the cheese burger…and maybe even a slice of tomato!
Enjoy!
