Lasagna with Meat Sauce

Difficulty:

My Lasagna video shows a really quick and tasty way to make spinach lasagna. If you don’t like spinach, ground beef as well as ground Italian sausage are really great alternatives.

Lasagna with Meat Sauce

There are a three ways you could go about adding meat to this video lasagna recipe.

1. Brown ground beef and mix it together with the jar of spaghetti sauce.

Or
2. Brown Italian sausage and mix it together with the jar of spaghetti sauce.

Or
3. Make my recipe of Pasta Sauce with Turkey Italian Sausage and use it in place of the store bought jar of spaghetti sauce.

If you are going to make lasagna with only the meat sauce, skip adding the spinach completely. You could leave it in but there are there are a lot of strong flavors competing with one another!

Skip the Spinach!

The beef or the sausage must get cooked completely before adding it to the sauce. Make sure there is no “pink” left on the meat when you are browning it.

Both browned ground beef and real Italian sausage need to have the fat drained off before adding them to the sauce.

Draining Browned Ground Beef

In my Pasta Sauce with Turkey Italian Sausage I point out that it is not necessary to drain the meat because there is very little fat in turkey sausage to begin with!

Pasta Sauce: Italian Turkey Sausage

Follow the instructions on the Lasagna Video. When you are assembling your lasagna, the layering of all the ingredients can get confusing.

Just remember to start with about ¾ cup of sauce on the bottom of the pan. Then the order is:

  1. Pasta, sauce, cheeses
  2. Pasta, sauce, cheeses and
  3. Pasta, sauce, cheeses!

Enjoy!

This lasagna is fast and fantastic!!  I made the meat and the spinach lasagna for Christmas and it was outstanding.  Everyone loved it and even cutting corners w/ pre made ingredients did not cut out any of the flavor that is so loved in a lasagna.  My personal favorite was the meat lasagna which I am making today w/ ground sausage, for another family gathering for more of an italian style.  I just love this video receipe!

Hi Kathy!

When you use meat sauce instead of the spinach sauce, do you skip adding the ricotta? .. and then just do pasta, meat sauce, mozzarella cheese?

Thanks

Amanda

Whoops! Never mind. I printed out the recipe. I am going to try it out tonight.

Hi Amanda, I like the ricotta layer in addition to the meat sauce!  Good luck!
